The recent guilty pleas of two Fullerton Teamsters leaders are only the latest in a series of cases including embezzlement, drunk driving and sexual harassment by Southern California Teamsters officials. Since 2009, ten officials, including four top Local Union bosses, have been removed in the wake of scandals.
Last month Secretary/Treasurer Fred Correll and his son-in-law, Ryan Sherrard, pled guilty to felony embezzlement of Teamsters District Council 2 funds alleged to amount to more than $1 million.
In January, San Diego Teamsters Local 36 boss Art Cantu was charged with embezzlement along with Business Agents Michael Witek and Marilyn Rawlins. Cantu allegedly used union funds to buy another car after a drunk-driving incident where he took out six parked cars and two light poles. The Business Agents allegedly participated in covering up the car purchase and also used union funds for personal expenses.
